Saving your data
Ever received your monthly bill and it was way more than you were expecting? Here at Jeenee Mobile we hate that feeling, so we want to help you avoid it as much as possible. Here are some handy tips for avoiding bill shock:
Connect to wi-fi wherever possible
Avoid using your mobile data by connecting to wi-fi whenever possible. If you have an internet connection at home, you can set up a wireless hotspot and set your phone to automatically connect to it, which means you'll never need to use mobile data whenever you are at home. Many cafés, libraries and shopping centres also have free wi-fi hot spots available for anyone to use.
When you receive your 80% data use warning via SMS, disable mobile data in your phone settings
Jeenee Mobile will send you an SMS notification when you reach 80% of your data allowance. This SMS can take up to 48 hours to come through, so it's safest to stop using your data altogether when you receive the 80% notification to avoid those pesky excess data charges. To make 100% sure you don't use any mobile data, you can block your phone from using any more data by turning off mobile data use in your phone's settings.
It is possible to tether your phone to a laptop or a tablet, so that this device can make use of your phone's mobile data. This can be very useful when your laptop isn't connected to a broadband network, but it is very easy to use data up quickly when tethering. If you are planning on tethering, be careful and keep an eye on how much data you are using.
Avoid downloading apps while using mobile data
Downloading apps or app updates can use up a lot of your data. It is best to wait until you are connected to wifi before downloading new apps or updating your old ones. You can also download new apps on a computer, which will be transferred to your phone when you sync your device.
Take care when watching videos on your mobile
Streaming videos can use up a lot of your data, and is one of the biggest reasons for customers going over their data allowance. If you are planning on watching videos, try to watch only short clips and make sure the videos aren't streaming in HD. And as always, be careful and keep a vigilant eye on your data usage to make sure you know how much you are using.
Turn off automatic updates and background refreshing on your phone
The latest phones can be set to automatically download things in the background, such as music purchases and app updates. Make sure this setting is disabled on your phone, or is set to only download when your phone is connected to wi-fi. Some apps can also download data even when you are not using the app, which can use up your data without you even knowing it. This function can also be disabled in your phone settings.
Use the Jeenee Mobile usage monitor app to keep track of how quickly you are using your data
It's always wise to keep track of how much data you are using. Keep an eye on the Jeenee Mobile usage monitor app to get an idea of how much data is being used by the different activities you do. Keep in mind that the app can take up to 48 hours to update, so if you use a lot of data in a 48 hour period, you might not even notice you've gone over your data allowance until it's too late! So go slowly on your data usage until you get an idea of how much you can safely use.
